- exam covers Chapter 2 Sections 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
- exam is 10 problems, on 4 pages, printed on front & back of 2 sheets of paper
- Four Derivative problems: Given f(x) find f '(x).
- [1] (10 points) a problem involving the Basic Derivative Rules (concepts from Section 2.3)
- [2] (10 points) a problem involving the Basic Derivative Rules (concepts from Section 2.3)
- [3] (10 points) a problem involving the Product and/or Quotient Rules (and earlier rules) (concepts from Section 2.4)
- [4] (10 points) a problem involving the Chain Rule (and earlier rules) (concepts from Section 2.5)
- [5] (10 points) a problem about the tangent line (tangent line problems appear in Chapter 2 Sections 1,2,3,4,5,6)
- [6] (20 points) another problem about the tangent line (tangent line problems appear in Chapter 2 Sections 1,2,3,4,5,6)
- [7] (20 points) a problem using the Definition of the Derivative: Given f(x) find f '(x) using the definition of the derivative. (f(x) could be a polynomial function, or a rational function, or a function involving a square root.)
- [8] (20 points) a problem about position, velocity, and acceleration (such problems appear throughout Chapter 2)
- [9] (20 points) a problem involving Implicit Differentiation: Given an equation involving x and y find dy/dx by Implicit Differentiation. (concepts from Section 2.6)
- [10] (20 points) a problem about Related Rates. (concepts from Section 2.7)
- Note: All exam problems are based on the list of suggested exercises from the textbook.
- Note: On all problems, you should show all steps of the solution, use correct notation, and explain key steps. (Remember that in this course, the objective is to not only get correct answers, but also present clear solutions to the problems.)
