2016 - 2017 Fall Semseter MATH 1350 Survey of Calculus
Section 100 (Barsamian) Exam 1 Information
- Exam is on Friday, September 16, 2016 in Morton 237.
- You will need your OU student ID.
- No calculators, no books, no notes, no cell phones.
- The exam starts after 10:45am, as soon as all your stuff is put away
- The exam ends at 11:40am, no exceptions
- The exam covers Chapter 2 Sections 1,2,3,4,5,7
- The exam is 7 problems, on 6 pages, printed on front & back of 3 sheets of paper
- a problem about ordinary limits (concepts from Section 2.1)
- a problem about limits involving infinity (concepts from Section 2.2)
- a problem about using a sign chart to solve an inequality, with the answer presented three ways (concepts from Section 2.3)
- Given formula for f(x), find f '(x) using the definition of the derivative. (Function f(x) will be one of the following three types:
- polynomial function
- 1/x type function
- square root type function
(concepts from Sections 2.4.) (similar to suggested exercises 2.4 # 27, 33, 35 and class examples.) You will be asked to show all details clearly, use correct notation, and explain key steps.
- Given formula for f(x), find f '(x) using the derivative rules. Show all details clearly and use correct notation. (concepts from Section 2.5)
- Given formula for f(x) involving sums of fractions that involve constants and powers of x,
- (A) Rewrite f(x) as a sum of constants times power functions.
- (B) Find f '(x) using the derivative rules. Show all details clearly and use correct notation.
(concepts from Section 2.5.) (similar to suggested exercises 2.5 # 19, 45, 51, 53, 55)
- a problem about the the tangent line or rate of change (concepts from Sections 2.4 and 2.5)
- a problem about marginal analysis (concepts from Section 2.7)
- Note: All exam problems are based on the list of suggested exercises from the textbook and class drills.
