If you’re interested in joining the Disease IMPACT Lab, here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Review Our Focus Areas
Before applying, familiarize yourself with our Expectations for Lab Members, Roles and Responsibilities, and Core Research themes:
- Disease prevention and health communication in under-served areas
- Combating misinformation and promoting community trust
- Translating scientific findings into actionable messaging strategies
Step 2: Prepare Your Application Materials
Please submit the following:
- Statement of Interest (1–2 pages): Describe your background, research interests, and why you want to join the lab.
- Resume or CV: Highlight relevant coursework, experience, or skills in public health, communication, behavioral science, or related fields.
- Writing Sample (optional but encouraged): A research paper, article, or project that reflects your analytical or communication skills.
Step 3: Contact the Lab
Email your materials to batesb@ohio.edu with the subject line: “Disease IMPACT Lab Application – [Your Name]”.
Step 4: Interview & Fit
Selected applicants may be invited for a brief interview to discuss interests, availability, and potential roles within the lab. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to ethical, community-centered research. Make sure to review our Expectations for Lab Members.
Our research team collaborates with and supports one another. We help each other define problems related to health and communication, assist each other with data collection and interpretation, and work together on writing our results for general and academic audiences.
