Roles & Responsibilities – Disease IMPACT Lab
Lab members play an active role in advancing our research on health communication and infectious disease prevention. Responsibilities may vary by experience level and project needs, but all members contribute to the lab’s mission through the following core roles:
Research Support
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings relevant to disease prevention and strategic messaging
- Assist with survey design, interview protocols, and other data collection tools
- Participate in fieldwork or remote data gathering in Appalachian Ohio or Ecuador (as applicable)
Data Analysis & Interpretation
- Clean and organize qualitative or quantitative data
- Contribute to coding, statistical analysis, or thematic interpretation
- Collaborate on drawing insights that inform communication strategies
Writing & Dissemination
- Co-author academic papers, reports, or public-facing materials
- Help develop infographics, policy briefs, or educational content
- Present findings in lab meetings, conferences, or community forums
Collaboration & Engagement
- Attend regular lab meetings and contribute to team discussions
- Provide peer feedback and support across projects
- Engage ethically with community partners and stakeholders
Professional Development
- Pursue mentorship and skill-building opportunities
- Take initiative in proposing new ideas or research directions
- Represent the lab professionally in academic and public settings
