Ohio University, in partnership with the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery (OVMoD), is thrilled to host the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Patch Design Competition. This event invites students in grades K-8 to channel their creativity and passion for space exploration into designing mission patches. Here’s everything you need to know about participating in this exciting contest.
Contest Guidelines
- Eligibility:
- Open to students in grades K-8.
- Divided into two categories: grades K-4 and grades 5-8.
- Theme:
- Designs should reflect themes of space exploration, innovation, and scientific research conducted by SSEP students.
- Design Requirements:
- Submissions must fit within a 3.5 circular patch format that will be provided at OVMoD as well as online.
- Participants should use drawing as their primary medium. Any online submissions must be submitted in a PDF format.
- Include the name “Ohio University SSEP” and elements that represent space exploration.
- On the back of the design all entries must contain student’s name, grade in school, and contact information.
- Submission Process:
- Designs can be completed during events at the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery (OVMoD) as well as online.
- Students should bring their creativity and enthusiasm – materials will be provided at OVMoD to help with the design process.
Judging Process
- Initial Review:
- SSEP students and OVMoD staff will review submissions for creativity, relevance to the theme, and artistic execution.
- Public Voting:
- All qualifying designs will be uploaded to the OVMoD website for public voting.
- Family, friends, and the community can cast their votes for their favorite patch.
- Final Selection:
- The 10 ten vote reciepients will be judged by the Teen Science Café students. The top three will be contacted by OVMoD and their designs will be showcased in the museum.
- The winning patch will represent Ohio University’s SSEP project as the official mission patch.
