Clinical Anatomy
Immersion
OU-HCOM has two parallel curricular tracks, the
PCC
(a Patient-Centered Continuum) and the
CPC (a Clinical
Presentation Continuum). Prior to the students beginning their
separate curricular tracks, all of the entering students begin
their training together in an "immersion" setting for roughly
four weeks prior to Labor Day. The Clinical Anatomy
Immersion meets four days per week with three scheduled hours
of lab per day. The lab involves dissection of human cadavers,
imaging studies, and discussion of clinical anatomy in an
interactive laboratory setting. The structure of the human body
is presented in a clinically relevant manner, providing
correlations of normal anatomy to common disease states. The
ultimate goal is to enhance clinical reasoning in the context of
human gross anatomy. Witmer coordinates anatomical studies for
the Clinical Anatomy Immersion. |

RPAC
(Residency Program Advisory Committee): Basic Science
Integration
The
CORE, an educational
consortium comprised of OU-HCOM and 12 Ohio hospitals, has
recognized the importance of the "continuum concept" (i.e.,
vertical integration) that pervades medical education in Athens,
and has placed Basic Science Liaisons on all of the RPACs. Witmer currently serves as the Basic Science Liaison for the
General Surgery RPAC (GS-RPAC), and, from 2004–2011, the Otorhinolaryngology-Head
& Neck Surgery RPAC (ORL-HNS RPAC), and, from 1999–2004, the
Pediatrics RPAC (Peds-RPAC). |
