Making an Impact: Students Contributing to the Humanities @ OHIO Libraries

By Miriam Intrator, Special Collections Librarian, Mahn Center for Archives & Special Collections

Mahn Center and Digital Initiatives staff have been collaborating with Ohio University faculty on Humanities in the Park since summer 2021. Humanities in the Park is made possible, in part, by a grant from Ohio Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is curated and produced by the Ohio University Charles J. Ping Institute for the Teaching of the Humanities, the Athens Department of Arts, Parks and Recreation, and the Athens County Public Libraries. The result has been a series of outdoor exhibit panels on display at the Story Trail in Richland Avenue Park here in Athens:

We are especially excited about our most recent work for this project: Making an Impact: Students Contributing to the Humanities @ OHIO Libraries. It was installed in Richland Avenue Park on Monday, July 31st and will remain on view for three months or so.

This display differs from the others as it focuses entirely on select student-led projects that helped grow, organize, describe, research, or digitize material held in Mahn Center collections, from about 2019 through 2023. Space limitations meant that we could not feature every student or every project, but the exhibit helps demonstrate how student contributions are absolutely vital to helping make our unique collections available for anyone interested in exploring the humanities, society, and culture.

We hope you will visit the park to view the panels in person, but in the meantime, view the individual panels here as a pdf or in the gallery below:
