Gallery Walk & Talk with Artist Sauda Mitchell
Wednesday, August 30th, 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Kennedy Museum of Art galleries
Please join us as we welcome book artist Sauda Mitchell to speak about how she uses visual storytelling to explore African American collective memory. During the event, view two of her books that re held in the rare book collection: Finding Aid and Voyage. Both were acquired by Ohio University Libraries as 2022 Juneteenth acquisitions and Finding Aid was selected by the 2022-2023 Museum Studies Certificate Program cohort as a primary object for their exhibit, Merging Concepts IX: Then and Again.

Stories in the Park exhibit opening celebration! Making an Impact: Students Contributing to the Humanities @ OHIO Libraries
Thursday, September 21st, 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Richland Avenue Park
Help celebrate student achievements in the Mahn Center and Digital Initiatives! Wander through the story walk exhibit in the park learning about student work and contributions, enjoy light snacks and refreshments, and mingle with colleagues, students, supporters and friends of the Libraries, and faculty and community partners – especially the Ohio University Charles J. Ping Institute for the Teaching of the Humanities, the Athens Department of Arts, Parks and Recreation, and the Athens County Public Libraries.

Let It Burn: Artists’ Books and the Lure of the Flame

As long as humans have been documenting information, others have sought to destroy, ban, censor, or otherwise control that information. The situation today is no different. Challenging information is increasingly obfuscated, concealed, or withheld to suit repressive forces in our society. Perhaps this long, tense history of information creation and destruction helps to explain the lure of the flame for the creators of artists’ books.
Cornelius Ryan World War II Room Now Open
Alden Library, 5th floor behind the elevators, Monday-Friday, 9-4
In addition to highlighting materials from the Cornelius Ryan Collection of World War II Papers this new exhibit also features materials from other World War II collections and original uniforms on loan from the Southeast Ohio History Center.
