You found the Tulip Tree!
One of 15 trees in the PBIO Tree Hunt.
Liriodendron tulipifera — 🌳 Tulip tree is a forest gap-chaser. Give this shade-intolerant tree sunlight after a disturbance and it can race upward to become a towering member of the canopy.
Where it grows: look for it in the natural woods around campus — The Ridges, Baker Preserve, and Strouds Run — typically on rich slopes and in forest gaps.
