You found the Musclewood!
One of 15 trees in the PBIO Tree Hunt.
Carpinus caroliniana — 💪 No gym membership required! Musclewood gets its name from its smooth, sinewy trunk, which looks remarkably like flexed muscles.
Where it grows: look for it in the natural woods around campus — The Ridges, Baker Preserve, and Strouds Run — typically in shaded valleys and along streams.
